Fr. David Bergeron, a priest at the Catholic Charismatic Center in Houston, TX, explained to the live audience that he was trying to return to his parish for Sunday Mass and had to use his kayak to traverse the flooded area. He said he stopped at a local store to buy wine for Mass, but unfortunately he was told it was illegal to buy wine before 12noon on a Sunday. Nonetheless, he got some supplies for a stranded brother priest. He said he may still return to the store to buy wine at noon. He had heard of many people, including families with children, who were stranded in the flood, and he hoped to offer help. He also said the fact he was kayaking reminded him of how the Americas were originally evangelized. “I guess this is how the Americas were evangelized, with a canoe, this is a kayak. I hope that can bring a smile to a few people.”
A startling image of elderly women in a Texas nursing home surrounded by waist-deep flood waters, covered by blankets and sopping wet personal items stunned viewers on social media Sunday morning and prompted an emergency evacuation of the facility.
In light of the eclipse (see what I did there?) I got to thinking about what some of the Saints would have said about the event in the sky that captivated America. So many of our great saints had much to say on the topic of darkness – particularly spiritual darkness. Pope St. John Paul II even mentioned an eclipse in one of his encyclicals! Read on to see what these spiritual heroes would have said about the amazing celestial event.

The pilgrimage will be led by Canon Robert Hill from the Archdiocese of Glasgow and Fr Paul Maddison from Pilgrimage People. Britain’s first church on wheels has hit the open road – with a bishop celebrating Mass on a double-decker bus. The idea is to take the church out into the world and get people to change their lives for the better
Dear brothers and sisters, it is always the sweetest pleasure to join with you here in Carfin as our Paisley diocese makes its annual Pilgrimage in homage to Mary, our Mother, the Immaculately Conceived of God. Our pilgrimage to Our Blessed Mother is annual, by turn going to meet Her at Lourdes in the Pyrenees and then meeting Her here at home in Carfin. We come to thank Her, the Mother of our diocese, for all the graces She has obtained for us from Her Son, to ask Her to obtain Her Son’s blessing and protection in the year to come, and just to honour Her as the love of our hearts and our hope of salvation.
