This year’s theme suggests nobody has to look far to find hope, it’s on the doorstep, it’s closer than we think. Hope Within highlights the gifts, talents and potential within prisons, within communities, and within ourselves. Prisoners Week is an initiative of the Churches that aims to stimulate discussion, highlight concerns and share hope, in prisons and communities across Scotland. It takes place in the third week of November and offers a time to remember all who are affected by crime: people in prison, people who have been hurt by the actions of others, those who work in prison, families and the wider communities in which we live. The National Launch Service for Prisoners Week will take place at 18.30 on Monday 20th November in St Margaret’s, Drip Road, Stirling FK9 4UA, followed by refreshments. The Service is ecumenical and all are welcome. Local community and prison events also celebrate the week.

Every Legend Has A Beginning The year is A.D. 299. Diocletian rules the Roman Empire. And the gods have suddenly fallen silent. 17-year-old Jurian doesn't have time for the gods. He's trying to hold his family together after his father died in disgrace, and piety -- even to the Christ -- just isn't practical. But then a ruthless enemy targets his family, forcing Jurian to make a choice: will he pursue the glory he's always wanted, or will he sacrifice everything to protect a faith that was never really his own?
Dear Friends, #RedWednesday is a unique opportunity to Stand Up for Faith and Freedom – in this country and around the world – and to shine a light on the persecution of Christians and other faith groups today. By joining us in prayer, by wearing red, lighting your church red, by organising red-themed activities or attending #RedWednesday events, you will be doing something peaceful and positive to highlight the suffering – injustices, discrimination, violence, oppression, torture and death – of so many Christians and others today which goes largely unnoticed by the world. Your prayer-action will make a huge difference. If you can, please help us amplify our campaign by tagging us in your personal, parish, school, university or group social media posts using #redwednesday and @acn_uk Please also help by encouraging support for the thousands of families in Iraq and Syria who, with winter approaching, still urgently need food, clothing, shelter, medicine and fuel for heating and cooking to survive.
She constantly worked to aid the poor Scotland. She encouraged people to live a devout life, grow in prayer, and grow in holiness. She helped to build churches, including the Abbey of Dunfermline, where a relic of the true Cross is kept. She was well-known for her deep life of prayer and piety. She set aside specific times for prayer and to read Scripture. She didn't eat often and slept very little so she would have more time for her devotions. She lived holiness of life as a wife, mother and lay woman; truly in love with Jesus Christ.

Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time (Wis 6:12-16 1 Thess 4:13-18 Matt 2:1-13) Always be ready Jesus said we must always be ready for His second coming, ready to meet Him. Being ‘ready’ doesn’t mean spending all the time doing religious things. For married couples, being ‘ready’ means being ready to listen to each other, sharing thoughts and feelings. Keep your ‘love tank’ full by thinking of ways he or she can be surprised by love.
As St Monica prayed for her son we pray for all sons and daughters: “We now humbly ask you to pray with us for our sons and daughters who have drifted away from God and we ask you to add your prayers to those of all mothers who are worried about their children”. Bishop John would like to thank everyone who helped organise and support our first Bishop’s Fundraising Ball last month. Our first annual event was organised in partnership with Saint John’s, Barrhead and raised an amazing total of £57,000, with an additional £17,000 for the car raffled on the night, which means £74,000 of funds going to the refurbishment of their parish hall.

Ahead of the World Meeting of Families with Pope Francis in Dublin 2018 we will be sending you weekly reflections for couples and families based on the Sunday’s Readings. Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time (Mal 1:14 – 2:2, 8-10 1 Thess 2:7-9, 13 Matt 23:1-12) Do we both work hard and devotedly? We cannot avoid being challenged by the devotion, protection and love given to the followers of Jesus by St Paul and his companions. Can we say with equal certainty that in living our vows and commitments, we work as hard and devotedly? Yet this is what we married couples are called to strive for in our relationship with each other.
Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Isaiah 55:10-11 Rom 8:18-23 Matthew 13:1-23) Listen to the person behind the words The stony ground is when we are too engrossed in the telly, reading or working on the computer to listen to our partner. The thorny ground is where we disengage with such but not wanting real involvement, suggest a cuppa as a diversion. We are called to be fertile ground by real listening – hold hands, look in each other’s eyes.
