Dear Brothers and Sisters I am very happy to be with you today at the national shrine of Our Lady in Scotland. We have just celebrated the assumption of Our Blessed Mother into Heaven. There we look up to her with hope and consolation as the Woman clothed with the sun, with the moon at her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars, in battle against the infernal dragon who wants to devour the son about to be born from her womb. This figure of the Lady represents first of all the Church.
As the result of grave concerns over the plight of Syrian refugees, a group of local charities and activists, together with politicians from all 4 main parties in Renfrewshire and representatives from all major church denominations, were brought together to help focus on what support we, the people of Renfrewshire, could give to help in this humanitarian disaster which has been unfolding before our eyes. Out of this meeting a group has been formed which will be known as "Renfrewshire Refugee Support Group". The Good Samaritan didn't pass by, and neither must we.

Very heartened by the gathering of civic leaders and animators in Renfrewshire this morning to discuss strategies for supporting refugees coming to the local area. Impressive grasp of the situation and of our responsibility as well as an overwhelming desire for everyone present to support the refugees in all the ways we can and to ensure the best Renfrewshire possible welcome
