The 'Holy Places' collection is taken up at the request of the pope. It's administered by the Franciscan's and also the Congregation for Eastern Churches, it uses it for the formation of candidates to the priesthood, supporting the clergy of the area, including educational activities, cultural awareness, amongst other initaitives. 

Holy Places collection -
"will be a sign of rediscovered hope and of salvation after the Passion that many people now participate in, as well as solidarity with those who continue to live the Gospel of Jesus in the land where 'it all began.'"
